Jurien bay

In 1801, French naval explorer Nicholas Baudin journeyed along the coast of WA and named Jurien Bay in honour of Charles Jurien, an administrator in the French Navy.

In the 1950s and 60s, growing demand in Australia’s rock lobster (crayfish) export market prompted the development of jetties, boatsheds and fisherman’s shacks. Along with this came the holidaymakers who began building holiday homes along the coast and today, Jurien Bay remains a family-favourite holiday spot.

Jurien Bay has two shopping precincts that include a supermarket, fuel stations, a pharmacy and newsagent, liquor store, hotel and tavern, real estate agents, bakery, butcher, banking services, boutique retail outlets and numerous cafes, restaurants and take away food outlets, as well as a variety of accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets.

Known as ‘The Playground of the Turquoise Coast’ Jurien Bay is a great place to base yourself and tick off the Turquoise Coast bucket list items, as well as enjoying the unique attractions of the Jurien Bay township. For a town map click here.

Way Path

This sealed path extends for 13.5km from the Jurien Bay Boat Harbour to the mouth of the Hill River. Future aspirations for the path are to build a bridge over Hill River and then extend the path all the way to Cervantes, linking the two towns via the coast. The path is fully sealed and suitable for walking / running or for non-motorised transport options such as cycling, skating, prams or scooters. The path is enjoyed by recreational users but has also been incorporated into professional triathlon and other racing events.

Dobbyn Park is the heart of the town, running along the stunning coastline of Jurien Bay. At its centre the Jurien Jetty curves out to sea, a great spot for fishing or squidding at sunset.

The park has a beach playground, gas BBQ’s, picnic shelters, free games at the stage, public toilets, an outdoor exercise circuit and interpretive signage for the Jurien Bay Marine Park and snorkel trail.

A great spot for catching up with family and friends.

Jump the beach at the world’s most beautiful beach skydive. The multi-award winning Skydive Jurien Bay runs single, tandem and sports skydiving 7 days a week.

For non-jumpers pack a picnic and find out from the skydive office where the daily drop zone is to watch the jumpers land right on the beach.

If you’ve ever considered skydiving, you have to do it with Trip Advisor’s best reviewed skydive!

The Jurien Bay Underwater Interpretive Trail was a cooperative project between the Jurien Bay Coast Care Group and the Jurien Bay Men’s Shed. Located at the old fisherman’s jetty on the beach off Heaton Street an artificial habitat has been created through the placement of reef balls on the ocean floor.

Walk along Dobbyn Park to see interpretive signage with information about the history of this fascinating project.
